Five biblical reasons why we give generously to the Lord.
Giving is a form of worship
Hebrews 13:16 — "But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased. Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they keep watch over your souls as those who must give an account, so that they may do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you. Pray for us, for we are sure that we have a clear conscience, desiring to act honorably in all things."
Giving is a blessing
Acts 20:35 — "In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'"
Giving reveals a heart for the church
Matthew 6:19–21 — "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
Giving is a step of obedience and an indicator of faith
Luke 6:38 — "Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."
Giving is a grace in which we should abound
2 Corinthians 8:7 — "But since you excel in everything — in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in the love we have kindled in you — see that you also excel in this grace of giving."
